Terms and Conditions

1. No purchase necessary to enter the competition.

2. This competition is open to UK residents aged 16 years or over, with the exception of employees of the Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this promotion.

3. Entries must be received by 1 May 2009. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or fail to reach the Promoter by the relevant closing date for any reason. Proof of posting or sending is not proof of receipt. Entries via agents or third parties are invalid. Entries become the property of the Promoter and are not returned.

4. Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.

5. To enter, tell us about your book chat. Download the entry form found at http://www.spinebreakers.co.uk/Competitions/Pages/PenguinOrangeReadersGroupPrize2009.aspx. Then send your completed form along with any evidence to support your entry (eg photographs or videos) to us by uploading it to the Spinebreakers website in the online form here.

6. Entries submitted electronically must be in .doc / jpeg / .pdf / .wmv / .avi / .mov / .mpg file format. Entrants can send files up to 25Mb in size.

7. All correctly completed entries will be forwarded to a judging panel made up of six Spinebreakers Teen Editors who will select a shortlist of entries. The winner will then be chosen by Kate Mosse and will be the entry that in the judge’s opinion demonstrates that they have done the most to make reading social.

8. The prize for the winner is one thousand pounds (£1,000) and two tickets to the Orange Prize for Fiction 2009 Awards Ceremony which will be held on 3 June 2009 in central London. The prize includes two standard class return train tickets between London and a train station located within mainland UK or two economy class return air tickets between London and Northern Ireland only, and transfers to and from the Awards Ceremony. The winner must produce original, valid receipts showing proof of purchase of their travel tickets or fares in order to be reimbursed by Orange Personal Communications Services Limited. If the winner is under 18 years, they must be accompanied by an adult to the Awards Ceremony.

9. There will be two runners up who will each receive a set of Orange Prize for Fiction 2009 shortlisted books.

10. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

11. The prizes are non-transferrable and no cash alternative will be offered.

12. Prizes are subject to availability. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right (a) to substitute alternative prizes of equivalent or greater value and (b) in exceptional circumstances to amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.

13. The winner and runners up will be notified via email or post by 8 May 2009. The winner and runners up must claim their prize within 14 working days of the Promoter sending notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.

14. By entering this competition each entrant confirms that his/her entry is their wholly-owned creation and to the extent that such entry makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. Entrants will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person. By submitting an entry, each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) grants to the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, translate, modify, adapt, make available and distribute the entry throughout the world in any media now known or hereafter invented. Each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) undertakes to complete any necessary documentation to formalise the licence. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit materials to us.

15. To obtain details of the winner and runners up please email readersgroupprize@spinebreakers.co.uk stating the name of the competition in the subject heading 4 weeks after the closing date.

16. The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented.

17. The winner and runners up agree to take part in reasonable post event publicity and to the use of their names and photographs in such publicity.

18. By entering the competition each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
