2008 shortlist

Rugby High School Reading Group, Warwickshire

The Upper School Reading Group was formed two years ago by Year 10 and 11 students who wanted an opportunity to discover new books. It consists mainly of fifteen and sixteen year old students, plus their English teachers and the School Librarian. Discussions take place in the School library at lunchtimes, and by attending the group the students have been encouraged to experiment with a variety of genres, that they would not normally have tried.

All have attended all meetings, despite looming GCSEs last term. Books enjoyed include Tracy Chevalier’s Girl With a Pearl Earring and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.
